Crowe Sanibel saves wildlife even without reaching its hospital

When Hurricane Ian was heading toward southwest Florida, Allison Hussey had a plan.

“I grew up in southwest Florida and take storms very seriously,” said the executive director of the Sanibel Rehabilitation Clinic for Wildlife (CROW). “We’ve been watching this for some time. As with any storm that approaches, we kind of start our preparations.”

This is when the detailed plan began. It was put in place at the start of the season according to Hussey, and includes making sure the clinic’s students, staff, and patients are safe. Not an easy task when more than 150 animals are involved.
