Ella Wren Running-rabbit grew up in a musician’s house. Coming from Native American descent, her mother played the piano and her father played the bass, and she had a small radio through which she listened to any local artists she could. She started playing the piano by herself, as her mother began teaching her and her neighbor how to build a chord from three separate notes. From there, she exercised every day and started teaching herself more concepts. She started writing her own songs at the age of nine. In the eleventh grade, I started playing the guitar as well.
Running-rabbit has found itself inspired by many artists from its region, including Leftover Salmon and many different bluegrass groups, but has also been drawn to artists like Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, and Jimi Hendrix. Now, she has expanded her music collection to include artists from funk, blues and even artists like Metallica. However, those initial roots gave her the path on which she would run her musical train.
Whether it’s a standing ovation, a little kid saying she sings beautifully, or even an audience member asking her to play a certain song, Running- rabbit loves to get feedback from the audience. She loves being able to show people what she has to offer technically, and she loves being able to open up to the process of freely flowing music and lyrics so something memorable comes out of her.
Run-rabbit says it has a variety of music to play, whether it’s story-based music that allows the audience to focus on its lyrics or whether it’s the cooler songs that can keep the audience going during the evening. She hopes that audience members will appreciate what she has to offer and allow her musical voice to connect with her audience in a deeper way.
Ella Wren Running-rabbit will perform at The Millsite Inn, 44365 Highway 72 in Ward, Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 8 p.m.
