Shanghai Poly Grand Theater has released a lineup of new shows and musicals for its eighth annual performance season. A total of 36 theater performances will be presented this fall, including dramas, musicals, traditional folk art, and concerts.
Since the emergence of the classic Asian musical “Washing Clothes” in 2005, it has been watched by more than 600,000 people. This time, as a farewell performance to the Chinese version of “Washing Clothes”, outstanding young artists such as Zhou Mohan will present a different kind of audiovisual feast.
The Chinese musical “Picking Stars,” created by Poly Performance and Game IP Glory of Kings, will premiere at the Poly Grand on November 11-12.
The performance features professional music production teams from home and abroad, and includes famous heroes of Glory of Kings for artistic deconstruction to meet the expectations of different audiences in a comprehensive way. (Glory of Kings is a very popular Chinese game.)
Since 2020, the Poly Grand Hotel has taken advantage of new business performance styles such as outdoor waterscape and black box theater to seek various performance spaces.
The theater also tries to make full use of the small stages and develop production for them.
This weekend’s small theater will present the immersive drama “Shear Madness Salon,” the theatrical version of interactive comedy.
China Music House, the most fashionable music brand at the moment, will bring a popular music show to the Poly Grand Hotel.
Liu Tianqi, a famous young actor, screenwriter and director, will interact with audiences face to face with his plays “The Problem of Chickens and Rabbits” and “Brazil”.
Launched for the first time this year by Poly Grand, Poly City Island Music Season aims to create a spiritual “island” for city dwellers to enjoy “poetry and distance.”
The Poly Grand Hotel also arranged a special series of parades to welcome the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
The large-scale artistic presentation “Red Literature and Artistic Light Knights” by Ulan Muki from Hulunbuir Ewenki Autonomous Banner will be presented at the Poly Grand Hotel this fall.
Other performances include “The Brilliant Voice”, a 90-minute melodic performance by a male Beijing choir led by veteran conductor Zheng Jian, and excerpts from many classic series such as “Carmen”, “Don Juan” and “Rigoletto”. Presented by the Central Opera House.
“The theater itself is currently undergoing a transformation,” said Chen Teiji, Poly Grand Chairman. “Let the audience regain their confidence to enter the theater, to come here to listen to a concert, to see a musical and to buy some cultural and creative work, that’s all we had hoped for.”
Since its opening in 2014, the cultural landmark in Jiading New City has held nearly 2,200 performances in front of more than 1.3 million people.
It also sponsored more than 400 art promotion activities, such as art classes and public open days, which were attended by about 90,000 people.
