Fort value – lions, tigers, bears – oh, oh! – It’s not the only exotic creatures that can be seen up close and personal at one of the country’s most highly-rated zoos, just 150 miles north of Killeen-Fort Hood.

Known as the oldest continuous zoo in Texas, Fort Worth Zoo was founded in 1989 by the Colonial Parkway in 1909 with one lion, two bear cubs, an alligator, a wolf, a peacock, and a few rabbits. From these humble beginnings, the 64-acre design has grown into a nationally classified facility, home to more than 7,000 domestic and exotic animals.
