The Charleston RiverDogs won the league title for the second year in a row on September 20, completing a sweep of the Lynchburg Hillcats in the Carolina League Championship Series.

They outperformed the Hillcats, 6-2, at Lynchburg (Virginia), taking both races in the three-game series. Charleston won the opening game at Riley Park on September 18.

Carson Williams and Brooke Jones cast JJ Goss on a career of 6.2 innings for the RiverDogs team. Williams’ singles blast at the top of fourth broke the goalless tie, and Jones’ two-round shot lifted the lead to 5-0 in the sixth inning.

Gus grabbed the Hillcats without injury for five innings. Lynchburg recorded both of her runs in the bottom of the seventh.

For the first 41 years of franchise history, Charleston went without winning a title. Since becoming an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays prior to the 2021 season, the team has the best record in Major League Baseball.
