VINCENT – Stephen Anderson is 16 years old in the electrical program at the Washington County Career Center and a member of the Warren Warriors golf team.
“I saw golf and thought it was a good opportunity to try a new sport. I am by no means the best,” Anderson said. “But this is only my second year.”
Anderson was a three-year NFL member, a member of the Junior Fair Council, was named the Little Prince of Washington County 2022, and won the Reserve Grand Prix for his rabbits at the 2022 Ohio State Fair.
“We just found ways to get better with rabbits,” Anderson said. “It was fun knowing that the hard work paid off after all those years.”
Anderson said he’s excited to be back next year.
As a member of the Junior Fair Board, Anderson’s responsibilities include assisting with animal and market shows, advertising, computer work, and record keeping. He also has a voice on the show.
“Yes, we have to make small decisions,” Anderson said. “On the different ways of how things work, procedural matters.”
Besides being in the electrical program at the Job Center, Anderson also makes repairs around the house, helping to remodel his mother’s bathroom and working with his father to rebuild cars.
“We’d have a 79 Chevrolet Blazer, and my mom would have a 1960s Volkswagen Bug,” Anderson said. “We found it in Montana, actually, so it was a long time getting to get him here.”
Anderson has a family in Montana, including his father’s cousin, a sheriff. He said he enjoys visiting them and places like Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone Park where he spotted a moose and a bear.
Anderson also started his own garage door business, repairing, repairing, installing, and replacing garage doors and garage door openers.
“I might go get some garage door parts then,” Anderson said during his interview.
Anderson said that when he was young he always loved to learn about garage doors. So he started watching YouTube videos of how to work with them, and now he fixes garage doors for family and friends. Anderson said he has fixed about 20 garage doors and is doing work on the Barlow fairgrounds.
In his spare time, Anderson said he enjoys watching old TV shows like “The Andy Griffith Show,” “I love Lucy” “mash,” Leave it to the beaver. And the “The Flintstones.”
“I grew up with a bunch of old shows,” Anderson said. “My dad was really interested in the black and white shows.”
Anderson says he hopes to continue his studies in electrical work, and the garage he works in has a name.
I thought ‘Anderson’s garage door,’ Anderson said.
