The Voice award winner Anthonia Edwards nearly blew up her latest performance with mentor Sir Tom Jones because she forgot her lines.
The nurse who used to take care of her Corona virus disease Sick, she admitted she was so nervous with the Welsh icon on the cover of James Brown’s It’s a Man’s Man’s World last night that she has an empty memory.
Fortunately, she got it all together – and now she’s writing songs for her debut album.
Antonia told me, “It’s incredibly imaginative. I’m so proud of myself and my duet Sir Tom It was awesome.
“But there was a moment when I was stung where I almost forgot my lines.
“I don’t think people noticed it as I designed it, but it was a close call.”
She said, “I’m a Christian and he really connected with me. I felt an element of my soul.”
“He respected me and said he heard something and knew I had something special. There’s a sparkle in his eye – he has a beautiful sparkle.”
“He told me I had nothing to worry about and just be myself. His presence is soothing — such an anchor. I hope we can keep in touch.”
Tom said he would always be on the end of the phone if she needed, adding, “I’m so proud to be crowned this year’s winner.
“Anthonia’s voice and talent has risen above a very competitive field and speaks for itself, so I am in no way surprised that she is a winner of our Series 11.
“When I first heard her on blind tests, I knew she had something really special.
“Having the opportunity to work with her on this series has been nothing but fun from start to finish.
“She deserves a lot of respect for both her abilities and her work ethic, so I am excited about her future. If she ever needs advice, I’m here to help, if I can.”
London-based Antonia wants to build on her experience working during the pandemic.
She said, “I totally felt the effects of Covid as a nurse. I was a student at the time, I was helping people in their homes who couldn’t get to the hospital. It was an honor for me to serve.”
“I sang to my patients, but maybe a few wanted me to stop.
“When you’re in people’s homes, you want to make them feel comfortable and take care of people who are in a vulnerable state.
“When I started my career I had no idea what would be asked of me, but I discovered that I could do more than I knew I could do. It helped me mature. I have seen so many patients who unfortunately succumbed to Covid and losing them was a hard thing to deal with.
“Death is a huge part of life, and we rarely learn how to deal with it.
“I’ve been on that journey trying to understand the meaning of life and how to move forward with faith and courage. It’s hard.”
Antonia’s single, cover Justin BeiberA 2021 success, it has now been released to EMI Records.
